About Renee
Renee is a young woman growing up in the Chicago suburbs and currently in her final year of high school. She is undiagnosed but lives with a combination of motor, cognitive, and feeding challenges that shape how she experiences the world and how our family navigates daily life. Over the years, we’ve learned that progress rarely comes from one perfect solution, but from many small, thoughtful adaptations — at home, at school, and everywhere in between.
What defines Renee most, though, isn’t her challenges — it’s her joy. She is an extraordinarily happy person with a contagious smile and a deep love for the things that make her feel calm and connected. She adores Frozen, listens to music constantly, lights up when she’s on a horse, and loves garden walks. Renee’s Reviews exists because of her: to share what has genuinely worked for our family, to help others feel less alone, and to show that a meaningful, joyful life is built one practical choice at a time.

Our five-star review standard
Renee’s Reviews features only products our family has personally used and believes deserve a five-star recommendation. We still explain each product’s limitations and caregiver considerations so families can decide whether it fits their needs.
How we develop a review
Renee’s Reviews is a family-run publication. Our reviews are written from firsthand observations of products Renee and our family have actually used. We focus on the task a product helps with, the assistance still needed, and the tradeoffs that can be easy to miss in a product listing.
- Real use: Where and how does the product fit into Renee’s daily life?
- Practical benefit: Does it support participation, comfort, access, or an easier caregiver task?
- Caregiver effort: What setup, positioning, assistance, or removal is still required?
- Honest limits: What did not work as well, and what should another family check before buying?
For example, the FUNctional Hand makes assisted coloring and signing easier, but Renee sometimes resists wearing it. The Woleyi phone holder keeps a screen in view, but a caregiver must attach and position it each time. Those details are part of the recommendation, not exceptions to it.
Our five-star policy is a selection standard: we publish products we would recommend from our own experience. It does not mean every product is suitable for every person, or that we have tested every competing option. A product’s presence in an advertisement is not an editorial recommendation. Any affiliate relationship is explained in our affiliate disclosure.
