Mobility products tested in everyday life
Mobility equipment has to do more than look good on a specification sheet. These reviews explain how seating, positioning, transport, comfort, caregiver handling, and daily practicality worked for Renee and our family.
Mobility, seating and positioning reviews
- Bugaboo Fox 5 Renew — notes on the current model alongside our experience with Renee’s earlier red Bugaboo; Renee has not used the Fox 5 Renew.
- Special Tomato EIO Push Chair — supportive mobility designed around comfort and caregiver practicality.
- Special Tomato Soft-Touch Liner — added positioning support that grew with Renee.
Different supports for different stages
Our mobility reviews describe a progression in our family’s needs, rather than three interchangeable choices. The EIO review explains the move from a Bugaboo stroller after Renee outgrew it, before the transition to a wheelchair. The Soft-Touch Liner review looks at portable seating support for situations such as restaurant meals.
A stroller or a supportive push chair? Start with the user’s current size and positioning needs. Then consider the caregiver’s part: steering, folding, lifting and finding space in the vehicle. Our EIO review describes family outings at the Botanic Garden and in urban settings, along with the tradeoff of a larger, heavier chair and the cost of accessories.
A portable liner or a complete seat? A liner adds support to a compatible seating setup; it does not make every ordinary chair suitable. The Soft-Touch Liner review explains why portability was useful to our family. Check the intended seat, size and securement requirements instead of assuming that a liner will fit wherever you travel.
Before buying, measure the storage and transport space as well as the person who will use the equipment. Ask your seating or therapy team about fit and positioning, and check the current manufacturer’s instructions and limits. Our experiences are a starting point for questions, not an individual seating assessment.
